Thai police have arrested a 35-year-old man for the chilling premeditated murders of his sister and their elderly father.

He allegedly drowned them by locking them in two customised steel boxes.

The gruesome murders came to light after residents of Ban Sang Khui in Phang Khon district alerted authorities about the two suspicious steel boxes near a pond, reported the Thai Examiner last week.

The man, identified as Warut Datephumee, reportedly admitted to killing his father, Prayat Datephumee, and sister, Piangpen Datephumee, while also revealing the motive behind the crime, reported Thaiger.

During interrogation on 10 January, Warut revealed a tale of calculated brutality, explaining how he planned the murders over his unhappiness with his father, who had threatened to cut him off from his inheritance

Warut said that there have been simmering tensions between the family over an inheritance dispute. His father's repeated threats to sever ties and cut off the expected inheritance fueled resentment.

According to Thaiger, Warut claimed that he felt stressed because he could not impress his father in any way. He was also angry with his autistic sister, who always agreed with everything their father said.

The report stated that he felt like no one was standing by his side, so he planned their murders.

Warut explained that he designed the metal boxes. He paid a local metal factory TBH12,000 (approximately RM1,600) to put the wheels on the boxes so that they could be pushed around easily.

When the factory workers asked about the purpose of the boxes, he claimed that he wanted the boxes for his YouTube videos.

However, he lured his father and sister into the boxes, asking them to try what he described as 'innovative beds'. He then locked them inside, carried the boxes to the pond, and dumped them there, reported Thaiger.

According to Warut, he was fully aware of his actions and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol

He also claimed to have committed the murders alone.

According to Section 289 of the Thailand Criminal Law, Warut could face the death penalty for intentionally killing his father. This statute stipulates the death penalty for such acts, while Section 288 outlines punishment for intentional murder as death, life imprisonment, or imprisonment for 15 to 20 years.
