<h2>The South Korean Ministry of Justice has issued a warning to tourists, advising them against using non-official websites to apply for the Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) before travelling to the country</h2>

<p><p>On the <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.k-eta.go.kr/">official K-ETA website</a>, the ministry warns that <b>it has</b> <b>not designated any other agency for K-ETA application.</b></p>
<p>&#8220;Some non-official websites were found to be <b>illegally collecting a higher fee</b> than the official fee and relevant cases have been reported.</p>
<p>&#8220;Please be careful to protect yourself from damages due to fraudulent non-official K-ETA websites and agencies,&#8221; it warned.</p>
<p>According to <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2024/02/18/korean-travel-drama-a-costly-affair">The Star</a>, many unsuspecting Malaysians have also fallen victim to this scam.</p>

<p>It was only when she was charged USD99 for the K-ETA that she realised that she had been duped.</p>
<p>Moreover, she is now concerned about the legitimacy of her &#8216;approved&#8217; K-ETA application and whether she will be allowed to enter the country during her trip.</p>

<p>The current price for a ticket from JB Sentral to Woodlands is already RM5, while from Woodlands to JB Sentral, it costs SGD5 (RM17.80). </p>
<p><b>The new move, announced last Friday, 16 February, will set the price at RM5 both ways for Malaysian citizens.</b></p>
<p>An estimated 40,000 Malaysian citizens use the train service to commute daily between Johor and Singapore.</p>
<p>Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) announced tickets are already available for purchase at the new pricing for trips in August onwards.</p>

<h2>The Immigration Department is exploring the possibility of extending the validity period of Malaysian passports from the current five years to 10 years</h2>

<p>Speaking to the press, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the department is conducting a survey to assess the feasibility of extending Malaysia&#8217;s passport validity.</p>
<p>The survey will study neighbouring countries that have already extended passport validity to 10 years, such as Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore.</p>
<p>Saifuddin Nasution expressed confidence that the insights gathered from this survey would inform policy decisions regarding the transition from a five-year to a 10-year validity period for Malaysian passports.</p>

<p>The establishment of the passport office in Kota Kinabalu would be achieved without the need for additional staff hiring. Instead, personnel for the new office will be sourced through transfers from the Immigration Department headquarters, ensuring efficient resource allocation.</p>

<p><p>According to <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/2024/02/13/hotels-say-prices-expected-to-increase-by-up-to-30pc-following-sst-hike-to-8pc-this-year/117740">Malay Mail</a>, Malaysian Association of Hotels president Datin Christina Toh said <b>hotel prices are expected to increase by 10% to 30%, following the SST rate rise <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://says.com/my/news/anwar-govt-to-increase-service-tax-from-6-to-8">from 6% to 8%</a> on 1 March.</b></p>
<p>Nevertheless, Toh remains optimistic about tourism, citing ongoing promotions and government support, such as visa exemptions for tourists from specific countries.</p>
<p>She added that, despite the price hike, Malaysia still has one of the lowest hotel room rates among the ASEAN countries.</p>
<p>&#8220;The increase has no effect. That is one of the reasons why we want to attract more foreign tourists to our country because our prices are still reasonable,&#8221; she said.</p>

<p><p>Ridel Boutique Hotel owner Aiman Wasa told <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.sinardaily.my/article/215475/hotel-prices-to-increase-following-sales-tax-hike-industry-reactions-differ" title="Link: https://www.sinardaily.my/article/215475/hotel-prices-to-increase-following-sales-tax-hike-industry-reactions-differ">Sinar Daily</a>&nbsp;that&nbsp;<b>suppliers have started to send notices of raised prices by up to 20% starting 1 March.</b></p>
<p>&#8220;Room prices must go up. If suppliers raise prices, we also must do the same; this does not include an increase in water tariff rates.</p>
<p>&#8220;Competition in this business is very high, but we cannot raise prices too high.</p>
<p>&#8220;That is one of the reasons why many hotel businesses are closed.</p>
<p>&#8220;When prices go up, there are no customers, and when prices are not raised, costs go up,&#8221; he said.</p>
