CNA Claims Najib's Jail Term Has Been Reduced To 6 Years

Datuk Seri Najib Razak's jail sentence for corruption has reportedly been halved to six years by the Pardons Board, reported CNA

The decision by the Pardons Board also includes a reduction of Najib's RM210 million fine to an unspecified amount, according to the Singapore news website, which cited three separate anonymous sources today, 31 January.

SAYS cannot verify the claim independently as the Pardons Board has not released any official statement yet.

If true, the partial royal pardon comes after Najib has served less than two years of the original 12-year sentence for his role in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.

The reduction means Najib will complete his sentence in August 2028

However, the former prime minister will become eligible for parole in August 2026, and could also potentially be released on good behaviour in August 2026, after serving two-thirds of the new jail term.

The CNA report today comes after a Utusan Malaysia report yesterday, claiming that Najib was granted a full pardon.
