<p><p>In a <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.facebook.com/SimTzeTzin.MP/posts/pfbid06FM8FgZ1xqQbGivGTwrPRGkSctMq19AAFwrDatevdtEMFZYLcjZyJt6ec5on3hZ4l">Facebook post</a> on 14 February, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin <b>expressed his concern over the latest birth rate and marriage statistics released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).</b></p>
<p>&#8220;I got curious, why are so few Chinese babies born? So, I used my Chinese New Year spare time to dig a little deeper,&#8221; he wrote.</p>
<p>The MP found that&nbsp;<b>only 40,000 Chinese Malaysian babies were born</b>&nbsp;compared to the total of 423,124 live births in the country in 2022.</p>
<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s less than 10% of total live births!&#8221; he said.</p>

<h2>Sim added that the DOSM statistics show a stark difference in General Marriage Rates (GMR) between Muslims and non-Muslims</h2>

<p><p>&#8220;When I looked at DOSM&#8217;s latest statistics, I found out Chinese Malaysian not only have less babies, they have less marriages too! Double shock!&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>He stated that according to DOSM, approximately 61 marriages occurred per 1,000 Muslim Malaysians, whereas&nbsp;only 22 marriages occurred per 1,000 non-Muslims in 2021.</p>
<p>He concluded that<b> Muslims are 2.7 times more likely to get married compared to non-Muslims.</b></p>
<p>&#8220;So, we can summarise that <b>more and more Chinese or non-Muslim populations are staying single or not getting married.</b></p>
<p>&#8220;This will directly impact the birth rates of Chinese or non-Muslims. Less marriages, less babies,&#8221; he said.</p>

<p>On <i><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dcaarL326E">The goop Podcast</a>&nbsp;</i>with Gwyneth Paltrow, Yeoh explained that her past marriage didn&#8217;t work out primarily because she couldn&#8217;t have children, and her ex-husband, Dickson Poon, desired a large family. </p>
<p>Yeoh shared that they did &#8220;whatever was necessary&#8221;, but she was physically unable to conceive. Their busy schedules and prolonged periods of separation for work also contributed to the decision to end their four-year marriage.</p>
<p>&#8220;With our work, we&#8217;re always travelling. If you&#8217;re filming outside the country, maybe we&#8217;ll not see each other for a couple of months. When both parties (are working), it&#8217;s hard to find that balance,&#8221; she said.</p>

<p>&#8220;I think a lot of the times, her generation of mothers have that wish for their daughters; to find a good man, to be able to settle down, and be well taken care of,&#8221; she explained.</p>
<p>During the interview, when Paltrow inquired about Yeoh&#8217;s feelings regarding her inability to have children, Yeoh responded that it was a source of sadness for her, and that sentiment still lingers. </p>
<p>Despite giving their best efforts, the journey was challenging. In hindsight, Yeoh admitted that getting a divorce was the smart thing to do and that she was able to step away instead of clinging to an illusion that things would work out.</p>
<p>Yeoh revealed that she and her ex-husband are now good friends, and she has taken on the role of being the godmother to his eldest child.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sultan Ibrahim ascended the Johor throne when his father died in January 2010.</p>
<p>Sultan Iskandar Ismail&#8217;s children were all married into different royal houses of Malaysia.</p>
<p>Besides Tunku Azizah marrying Pahang Sultan Abdullah Ri&#8217;ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, Sultan Ibrahim married Raja Zarith Sofiah of the Perak royal family.</p>
<p>Tunku Kamariah is married to the Tengku Laksamana of Selangor, Tengku Sulaiman, while Tunku Abdul Majid is married to Teh Mazni Binti Tunku Yusuf, a member of Kedah and Kelantan royal family.</p>
