<p>Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, the chairman of the task force (food cluster) under the  National Action Council for Cost of Living, announced that the Malaysia MADANI white rice will be the only category of white rice available in Malaysia, reported<a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.bernama.com/en/news.php?id=2270319#:~:text=PUCHONG%2C%20Feb%2014%20(Bernama),market%20starting%20from%20March%201." title="Link: https://www.bernama.com/en/news.php?id=2270319#:~:text=PUCHONG%2C%20Feb%2014%20(Bernama),market%20starting%20from%20March%201."> BERNAMA.</a></p>
<p>Consequently, it is claimed that the previous categories of local white rice (SST) and imported white rice (SSI) will no longer exist in the country.</p>
<p>This means that local white rice and imported white rice will still be sold, but not as separate categories.</p>
<p>Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz also mentioned that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has approved the introduction of the Malaysia MADANI white rice.</p>

<p>He said stakeholders can continue to sell white rice in the previous packaging until their existing stocks are all sold out. However, he emphasised that the packages must be affixed with the Malaysia MADANI white rice price sticker.</p>
<p>&#8220;What we are doing here is to offer a more comfortable price for the people. This adjustment is made by the industry to provide appropriate pricing and availability in the market for all,&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>Following that, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz also mentioned that the retail price for local white rice is RM2.60 per kg as stipulated under the Control of Padi and Rice Act 1994 (Act 522).</p>
<p>However, the price for a 1kg sack of Malaysia MADANI white rice is set at RM3.50, which represents an increase of 90 sen from the price stipulated under the act. </p>
<p>He pointed out that rice prices have remained unchanged for 18 years, and that farmers would find the new ceiling price more favourable.</p>
<p>He also stated that the MADANI rice is set at RM15.50 for a 5kg sack and expressed hope that the industry will maintain the RM30 price for a 10kg sack.</p>

What will happen to SSI?&#8221; <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2024/02/15/new-malaysia-madani-white-rice-raises-questions-says-mydin-boss/">FMT </a>quoted him as saying. </p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s impossible to lower the price of SSI from RM40 per 10kg to RM30. This will lead to a shortage in the market. The industry needs an explanation,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>Ameer also inquired whether the sale of SST and SSI categories would be entirely discontinued. Nonetheless, he expressed gratitude to the government for announcing the competitive price of RM30 per 10kg for Malaysia MADANI white rice.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, Consumers Association of Subang and Shah Alam, Selangor (Cassa) president Jacob George questioned whether stakeholders were consulted before the government decided to abolish the SST and SSI categories. </p>
<p>He also hoped to hear from the government before drawing any conclusions and urged for clarity on whether the announcement was made solely in Syed Hussin&#8217;s interests or as a response to address the issue at its root.</p>

<p><p>According to Professor Dr Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh, the health risks arise from exposure to outdoor air pollutants, reported the <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/02/1013091/those-who-face-long-commutes-may-face-early-death-nsttv">New Straits Times.</a></p>
<p>She further elaborated that outdoor air pollution, identified as a significant environmental hazard by the World Health Organisation, resulted in 3.7 million premature deaths in 2021. This was primarily attributed to pollutants emitted from idle vehicles and engine revving.</p>
<p>Dr Sharifa emphasised that chronic lung diseases, elevated blood pressure, stroke, and asthma are among the enduring health effects linked to traffic-induced air pollution. </p>
<p>She also highlighted that long-term exposure to traffic-related factors can exacerbate heart-related diseases, increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes, and affect respiratory health.</p>
<p>Additionally, Dr Sharifa noted that prolonged sitting in vehicles can lead to repetitive stress, impaired back and neck, knee and hip pain, and an increased risk of leg edema due to reduced blood circulation and deep vein thrombosis.</p>

<p>However, he pointed out that a Swedish study revealed that individuals who commute for more than five hours per week are at a heightened risk of physical inactivity and sleep problems, reported the New Straits Times.</p>
<p>Dr Rama added that commuting for extended periods can also lead to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.</p>
<p>&#8220;The stress and frustration associated with commuting, especially in heavy traffic or crowded public transport, can take a toll on one&#8217;s mental wellbeing,&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>&#8220;Long commutes eat into valuable leisure time, leaving individuals with less time for activities that promote relaxation, socialisation and overall wellbeing. This can negatively impact work-life balance,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>He noted that long commutes also reduce the available time for exercise, thereby increasing the risk of non-communicable diseases like obesity.<br />﻿<br />Additionally, Dr Rama highlighted that prolonged commuting induces fatigue, which would reduce one&#8217;s cognitive function and work productivity.</p>

<p><p>Johor police chief M Kumar said the arrest was made by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Genting Highlands, Pahang, following a report lodged at 2.36pm on 10 February after the video of the altercation gained widespread attention on social media, reported <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2024/02/12/foreigner-arrested-over-johor-road-rage-incident">The Star.</a></p>
<p>The 54-second <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.facebook.com/reel/919040082763807">video</a>, which was uploaded on Facebook community group, Info Kemalangan/Jenayah Terkini Seluruh Malaysia, showed a red Mitsubishi Lancer being approached by two men.</p>
<p>As the driver attempted to drive away, one of the men lunged towards the car and slammed his hand on the windscreen. </p>
<p>In response, the driver exited his car with what appeared to be a golf club and swung it aggressively at the two men. Subsequently, the man struck the rear screen of a black MPV, causing damage.</p>
<p>Following the arrest, Kumar said the suspect in his 40s is currently being held in remand until tomorrow, 14 February. He added that the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief, which carries a jail term of between one and five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.</p>

<p>Following the incident, Kumar also urged all road users to exercise patience and consideration to ensure safety, particularly during the holiday season.</p>

<p>Razarudin also said a total of 1,509 individuals, consisting of 1,332 men and 177 women, were arrested for their connection to murder during that timeframe.</p>
<p>He said among the murder cases recorded during this period, Malays accounted for the highest number of victims, totalling 172, followed by Chinese (141), Indians (131), Bumiputeras from Sabah and Sarawak (62), and foreigners (202).</p>
<p>He added that the ethnicities of another 45 victims remained undetermined.</p>

<p>&#8220;Negligence leading to murder happened in 14 cases, in addition to mental instability (13 cases), rape (10 cases), extortion (seven cases), organised crime (four cases), abduction (three cases) and snatching (one case),&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>Razarudin, however, said there were no instances of serial murder reported in the recorded cases.</p>

<p>During a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex yesterday, 7 February, Shafee claimed that, while Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri&#8217;ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah wanted to grant Najib a full pardon, the then-king opted to conduct a vote among the Pardons Board members to decide on the matter instead﻿, reported <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/695613">Malaysiakini</a>. </p>
<p>&#8220;He passed four empty vote papers to the four non-permanent members [of the Pardons Board to indicate their stance on whether to grant a full pardon],&#8221; he said. </p>
<p>Shafee added that he was unaware of the outcome of the vote, but emphasised that it resulted in Najib having his sentence reduced instead of receiving a full pardon.</p>
<p>Shafee then asserted that, &#8220;[A royal] pardon is the sole prerogative of Yang di-Pertuan Agong. He can listen to the advice of the [Pardons Board members] but he shouldn&#8217;t [have held] the vote and [should have] decided on his own [instead].&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;The announcement [in the letter] is made by someone called YB Dr Zaliha Mustafa [the de facto Federal Territories Minister],&#8221; <a href="https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/695613">Malaysiakini </a>quoted him as saying.</p>
<p>According to Shafee, the letter reads as such:</p>
<p>&#8216;The Pardons Board, following Article 42 of the Federal Constitution, had on 29 January considered the convict&#8217;s sentence and advised the Yang di-Pertuan Agong that he should serve out the rest of his sentence. It is reasonable in His Majesty [the King’s] view, that mercy should be shown to Najib.&#8217;</p>
<p>Consequently, Shafee said the former king used his authority under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution and other powers to decree that Najib&#8217;s jail sentence be halved.</p>
<p>Al-Sultan Abdullah also decreed that Najib&#8217;s fine be reduced to RM50 million, with the stipulation that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional year added to his prison sentence.﻿</p>

It is unfettered and non-challengeable in any court,&#8221; the <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.nst.com.my/news/crime-courts/2024/02/1010719/updated-najib-submit-new-application-royal-pardon">New Straits Times</a> quoted him as saying.</p>
<p>&#8220;However, many members of the public are somewhat concerned due to the inconsistencies. My client is most baffled. As a result of these unsatisfactory features, we are looking at another application for a full royal pardon,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>Shafee also said that his team would decide when to submit the application, emphasising that they would have sufficient grounds, including some new ones.</p>

<p><p>The hosts made this statement in response to criticism they faced for featuring images of Hasli Ikhwan Arif Zul Hasli, also known as &#8216;Hot Daddy&#8217;, on their show.&nbsp;Hasli was recently charged in court for selling videos of himself engaging in sexual activities with over 20 women.</p>
<p>&#8220;We shared the image several days ago, but the podcast has not been released. However, some assume that we support the man,&#8221; <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.hmetro.com.my/utama/2024/02/1058367/kita-nak-tunjuk-perkara-ini-salah" title="Link: https://www.hmetro.com.my/utama/2024/02/1058367/kita-nak-tunjuk-perkara-ini-salah">Harian Metro</a> quoted one of the hosts as saying.</p>
<p>&#8220;This misinformation led netizens to believe we endorse him, which is not the case. We do not condone any wrongdoing; rather, we actively oppose and deter such behaviour,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>He further emphasised that they invited Hasli to the show with the intention of educating the public, particularly the youth, rather than seeking popularity.</p>
<p>&#8220;Our youth are increasingly exposed to negative influences, particularly on platforms like Twitter, where moral values are frequently disregarded by those who proudly generate dark side content. </p>
<p>&#8220;[Hence], we highlight such issues to discourage people, particularly the younger generation, from engaging in such behaviour,&#8221; said the host.</p>

<p>Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Osman also criticised Hasli&#8217;s appearance as a guest on the show as it appeared to idolise him, which is inappropriate.</p>
<p>&#8220;We are commanded to engage in practices that seek the pleasure of Allah. Are we inviting him [Hasli] to encourage people to seek Allah&#8217;s pleasure or to further spread inappropriate matters?&#8221; he asked.</p>
<p>Abdul Rahman also expressed hope that the hosts&#8217; decision to invite Hasli does not encourage inappropriate behaviour.<br />﻿<br />&#8220;I don&#8217;t know what the consequences will be because [the podcast is not out] yet. <p>This agreement was made in March last year to import defence technologies for Japan&#8217;s national security. </p>
<p>Malaysians recently called for a boycott of FamilyMart after discovering its connection with Elbit Systems, an Israel-based international military technology company and defence contractor.<br /><u></u><br />Subsequently, the popular convenience store chain issued an official statement, revealing that its parent company, FamilyMart Co Ltd Japan, had informed them that Itochu Aviation had decided to terminate the MoU with the Israeli company.</p>

<p>Dr Dzulkefly further mentioned that he had received multiple complaints regarding health issues that could be caused by the energy stick, and assured the public that he would promptly address the concerns.</p>

<p>According to a <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.facebook.com/najibrazak/posts/964394348384837">statement</a>&nbsp;on Najib&#8217;s official Facebook page yesterday, 4 February, members of parliament (MPs), such as Bukit Gelugor MP  Ramkarpal Singh, were accused of having a lack of understanding regarding Najib&#8217;s RM42 million SRC International trial.</p>
<p>This statement was released in response to <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.facebook.com/ramkarpal/posts/936376827858404">Ramkarpal&#8217;s Facebook post</a> on 3 February, where the MP urged the Pardons Board to disclose the reasons for commuting Najib&#8217;s sentence, emphasising that Najib committed the offences during his tenure as the head of the government &#8220;with utter disregard for the consequences of his actions to the nation and its people&#8221;.</p>
<p>Najib&#8217;s Facebook page said Ramkarpal had neglected to address the &#8220;numerous irregularities&#8221; in the case and brought up the only dissenting judge&#8217;s quote in last year&#8217;s Federal Court&#8217;s dismissal of Najib&#8217;s application to review his sentence that &#8220;a great injustice has fallen on Najib Razak and the correct decision is to acquit and release him&#8221;. </p>
<p>Ramkarpal was then challenged to a televised open debate on the subject. As the case has come to an end, there is no longer any danger of contempt of court to discuss it publicly.<br />﻿<br />&#8220;We invite Ramkarpal Singh to a televised open debate with a representative from our side on the subject of whether or not Najib deserves a pardon for the SRC case,&#8221; read the Facebook post.</p>

<p>&#8220;It is pointless engaging with Najib on this issue as it is elementary that the majority judgment of the said application prevails. Even the Pardons Board maintained his conviction.</p>
<p>&#8220;As such, any debate, whether with me or anyone else, would not change the fact that Najib remains a convict and that his conviction is safe,&#8221; wrote Ramkarpal.</p>
<p>&#8220;It is obvious that Najib wishes to use me to remain relevant by challenging me to this debate. I will not allow myself to be used by this cheap publicity stunt of his,&#8221; he added.</p>
