Graphic Designer Disappointed After She Was Offered Only RM1.6K Despite Holding A Degree
"If I had applied to work in the retail industry with no job experience, they would've offered me at least RM3,000 a month," she said.
A Malaysian woman shared her disappointment on social media after she was offered only RM1,600 a month for a graphic designer job
In a 57-second clip posted on her TikTok account, she shared that she received the salary offer after attending a job interview in Kuala Lumpur, where she had brought along her bachelor's degree certificate.
The woman then claimed that the company used the excuse that they could only offer her a low wage because she had no job experience prior to the interview.
"I have a degree and they only offered me RM1,600 monthly salary because I don't have any work experience.
"If I had applied to work in the retail industry with no job experience, they would've offered me at least RM3,000 a month," she said.
Upset by the offer, she expressed that the experience left her feeling hopeless, especially since she had travelled all the way from her hometown to try and make a living in the capital city.

"When I first started working, my basic monthly salary was only RM1,400. I had a bachelor's degree, a child, and was also a single mother.
"Now I earn RM1,800. If you think working in your hometown pays more, then you should go for it," commented one user.

"That's a normal salary for fresh graduates because most don't have any working experience.
"However, if you stay in the industry for 10 to 15 years, you can earn so much more. Meanwhile, if you work in retail for the same amount of time, you would still be earning RM3,000," wrote another.

"These days, having work experience is more valuable than holding a certificate. That's the reality because there are so many smart people out there," commented another.
