Malaysians Share Life Goals They Wanna Reach Before Turning 40 Years Old
You work hard, you save hard, but is it enough to make your dreams come true?
Growing up in a fast-changing world, Gen Zs and millennials have different aspirations as well as challenges compared to previous generations
According to a report by The Star, Gen Zs and millennials feel deeply concerned about the state of the world and their own future. To make ends meet, more than four in 10 Gen Zs and a third of millennials have a part or full-time side hustle, in addition to their primary job.
Plus, these young Malaysians are not just hustling for the sake of it. Most of them have a clear vision of what they want to achieve in life and how they picture themselves a few years down the road.

We spoke to some of these young Malaysians and asked them to share their life goals before they hit the big 4-0. Here's what they said:
1. "I want to live the expat life before turning 40"
"While the expat life is for all ages, I think it's crucial to do it when you're young, especially when you've yet to start a family, 'cause it's less of a hassle.
"I've always loved travelling, but I think that actually living and working in a foreign country is the only way for you to really immerse yourself in the people's culture and lifestyle. I really wanna experience working in Japan — I know the hustle culture there is crazy and it's not going to be easy for sure. But tbh, I'm open to working in any country, hehe."

2. "I wanna be able to afford an investment home and earn passive income"
"The idea is to buy a condo somewhere in Penang that I can rent out monthly or use as an Airbnb. Then eventually, I hope to be able to travel with that passive income.
"My ultimate goal is to hit at least 10 countries before I turn 40 years old."

3. "By the age of 40, I want to achieve financial freedom"
"I want to come to a place where I can do whatever I want without having to worry about money. That's why I'm actively pursuing investment opportunities, and hoping it pays off down the road.
"It'd also be nice if I can afford signing up for premium club memberships and even premier banking at some point. I've always envied this atas lifestyle, and imagined myself living the high flyer life one day."

4. "Before I turn 40, I want to open a book café that will be my own little paradise"
"There's nothing like curling up with a good book and a cup of coffee.
"It's my favourite way to relax and escape from the stress of everyday life. My dream is to open a book café where I can share this joy with others.
"I think life is too short to postpone your dreams. Plus, I think by that time, I would have enough experience and savings to make it a reality.
"Can't wait to make it happen and enjoy the peace and comfort of running my own business, instead of working for someone else."

5. "I have a clear goal for myself that before I turn 40, I want to be a top influencer for big brands"

"I don't want to settle for ordinary partnerships and products. I want to work with the best of the best, like Louis Vuitton, Bonia, and Chanel. I want to share my passion and style with millions of fans around the world. I know my dream may seem like a fairytale to some, but it's my reality.
"I'm not afraid to chase my dreams, because I know I have what it takes."
– Mia, 28 years old
6. "I have a lifelong dream to own a sports car by 40 — a GTR, to be exact"

"Ever since I was a kid, I've been fascinated by cars and racing. I love the feeling of adrenaline and speed, and nothing beats the sound of the GTR's roaring engine.
"I'm determined to make this dream come true. And, yes, I'm working hard and saving every penny I can to buy a GTR and drive it around before I hit 40. It would be the best thing that ever happened to me."
– Vhovignesh, 28 years old
