You Can Now Upgrade To 5G Without Any Additional Charges
Postpaid and prepaid users can upgrade to 5G without worry.
The government has announced that telecommunications companies will not impose additional fees on their subscribers for upgrading to 5G
In an X post on Tuesday, 9 January, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, said no telco will charge extra fees for 5G services in the country.
Now, both postpaid and prepaid users from all telcos can use the network without the need to purchase 'booster' passes.
Providing a free upgrade to the 5G network will contribute to a higher adoption rate of 5G in Malaysia
Fahmi also pointed out that when Malaysians switched from 3G to 4G, no additional charges were imposed.
"Today, I'm announcing that there will be no additional charges for 5G services," he said.
U Mobile, Maxis, and Yes 5G have been offering free access to the 5G network since last year
While other telco companies previously charged an additional fee for access to the upgraded network, they are now expected to provide 5G services at no extra cost in the coming days.
Now, the government will take action against service providers charging extra fees for 5G, as the 5G infrastructure provided by Digital Nasional Bhd is funded with public resources.
