<p>Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said the victim, in his 20s, is believed to have attempted to elope with the married woman, enraging her husband, <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.nst.com.my/news/crime-courts/2024/01/1006960/alleged-illicit-affair-turns-ugly-man-after-he-was-attacked">reported</a> the New Straits Times.</p>
<p>The victim had gone to a restaurant in Ampang with his friend, where he was assaulted by a group of men, including the woman&#8217;s husband, on the morning of last Tuesday, 23 January.</p>
<p>According to Mohd Azam, the husband assaulted the victim, causing his nose to bleed.</p>
<p>&#8220;The individual then took the victim to another location and beat him unconscious. The victim was beaten by more than three individuals until he was severely injured,&#8221; he was quoted as saying yesterday.</p>

<p>Police have since arrested five people, including the woman and her husband, aged between 22 and 32, to facilitate the investigation into the case, according to a <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.hmetro.com.my/mutakhir/2024/01/1055212/lelaki-parah-dibelasah-kerana-cuba-larikan-isteri-orang">report</a> by Berita Harian yesterday, 28 January.</p>
<p>&#8220;One of the suspects, in his 20s, has nine previous offences, including one [for which he is] wanted by the police. All suspects have been remanded for seven days starting [28 January] under Section 326 of the Penal Code,&#8221; he said.</p>

<p>In its heyday, the humble eatery drew crowds from near and far, even Singapore, with its delicious, affordable food. Weekends saw long lines, while weekdays hummed with steady customers.</p>
<p>Originally near Ampang&#8217;s Flamingo Hotel, the eatery was forced to move to a house in Kuala Ampang due to the construction of the Sungai Besi–Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) Highway.</p>
<p>Highway Ampang welcomed all, offering Muslim-friendly options and building a diverse community. Their secret? In-house fish paste, made with premium ikan parang, and a unique fish bone broth.</p>
<p>Despite its storied past, rising costs and a hefty licence fee — going from RM900 per year for its original commercial location to RM2,000 every six months in a residential area — have forced 63-year-old proprietor Elaine Siow to give up and close down the eatery. Its last day is on 8 February.</p>

<p><p>The reason, as shared by Siow who has run the place with her two sisters since she was 17, is rooted in a desire to serve all customers, irrespective of income.</p>
<p>The menu still features items like 60 sen iced Chinese tea and RM1.50 yong tau foo dishes.</p>
<p>&#8220;We are not so business-minded as to only want to make money. We want everybody to come here and eat, not just &#8216;rich&#8217; people who can afford to pay RM2 (per dish),&#8221; she <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2024/01/15/ampang-yong-tau-foo-institution-to-say-farewell-after-almost-48-years/">told</a> FMT.</p>
<p>&#8220;We sell our food at RM1.50; some people take two bowls of rice and three dishes of yong tau foo, which is RM6 to RM9. Some of these people, we don&#8217;t even charge them for Chinese tea,&#8221; she added.</p>

<h2>Two policemen were arrested yesterday, 11 January, on charges of extortion and sexual assault involving two private college students in Ampang, Selangor</h2>

<p>According to Selangor district police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the incident occurred on 9 January at 10pm when the complainants, an Uzbek national and her Malaysian friend, were at Bukit Ampang, reported the <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.nst.com.my/news/crime-courts/2024/01/1000055/cops-arrested-extortion-rape-uzbek-student" title="Link: https://www.nst.com.my/news/crime-courts/2024/01/1000055/cops-arrested-extortion-rape-uzbek-student">New Straits Times.</a></p>
<p>He said the victims were apprehended by the two fully uniformed policemen, who subsequently took the complainant and her friend to separate locations.</p>
<p>&#8220;During the incident, one of the suspects sexually assaulted the female complainant, while the male complainant was taken to a bank to settle payments demanded by the suspects for traffic offences,&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>Following the incident, Hussein said the policemen were arrested the next day, 10 January, by a team of policemen from the Ampang district police headquarters. They have been remanded for seven days.</p>
<p>According to a police report sighted by the New Straits Times, the female complainant was allegedly raped by one of the suspects.</p>
<p>The suspects, both in their 20s and 30s, hold the ranks of Constable and Lance Corporal, respectively, reported <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://www.sinardaily.my/article/214728/two-cops-nabbed-over-suspected-rape-robbery-of-college-student">Sinar Daily.&nbsp;</a></p>

<p>&#8220;For both cases, two investigation papers have been opened, one under Section 376 of the Penal Code and the other under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code. If found guilty under Section 376, the suspects could face imprisonment for up to 20 years and caning,&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>&#8220;For offences under Sections 395/397, the maximum penalty is also 20 years imprisonment, with the possibility of a fine or caning,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>Hussein also urged the public with information on the incident to visit the nearest police station or contact the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters at +603-42897222 to assist in the investigation.</p>
