The government has announced toll exemptions for Thursday, 8 February and Friday, 9 February in conjunction with Chinese New Year celebrations

The waive on toll payments will only be applied to private vehicles at numerous toll plazas, starting from 12.01am on 8 February and ending at 11.59pm on 9 February, as reported by the New Straits Times.

Toll plazas situated at international borders, such as the Sultan Iskandar Building and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza in Johor, are not included in the exemption.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that the waiver will cost the government around RM42.99 million, and is aimed to lighten the financial burden for people returning to their hometowns.

Road users are urged to plan their travels accordingly

"Safety aspects and safe driving practices must also be taken into account to ensure that all users reach their destinations safely, making the celebration of Chinese New Year more meaningful with their loved ones," he said in a statement today, 7 February.

"Users are also advised to take sufficient breaks and ensure that their Touch 'n Go card balances and eWallets are sufficient," he added.
