Fluffed Café Has Special Chinese New Year Nian Gao Waffles With Cute Dragon Ball Jellies
The dragon ball jellies look like mini versions of the ones from the 'Dragon Ball' series!
Popular café Fluffed is offering a unique dessert for Chinese New Year — nian gao waffles with dragon ball jellies!
To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, the café and dessert bar came up with their CNY special of the year, aptly called Dragon Ball. It is also known by an alternate name — Prosperity Niangao Waffle.
According to a post on Fluffed's Instagram, the scrumptious dessert consists of several components, each one carrying a different blessing for the Lunar New Year
"Legends say that you will be blessed with good luck and countless wealth after eating 'Dragon Ball' waffle! Bring your friends & families to Fluffed today!" reads the caption of the post.
Nian gao, a popular CNY snack, has been added to the café's signature crispy yet fluffy waffles, giving them a nice chewy pull, reminiscent of mochi waffles. The dessert is topped with red bean ice cream and almond crumble. It is served alongside fried banana popiah and a waffle cup containing the dragon ball jellies.
The Instagram post also describes the meaning of each component:
– Nian gao waffle: 步步糕升 (getting better every year)
– Red bean ice cream: 红运当头 (good luck & prosperity)
– Fried banana popiah: 蕉财进宝 (brings money & wealth)
– Almond crumble: 黃金滿地 (gold coins all over the floor)
– Dragon Ball jellies: 召唤神龙 (for you to summon the dragon, jk)

The dragon ball jellies are not only super cute, they're also little pops of flavour
They look like mini versions of the mythical dragon balls from the Dragon Ball series.
In the Japanese series, after collecting the seven dragon balls, each of which have a different number of stars on them, you can summon the dragon Shenron and make a wish. Once you make your wish, the dragon balls will scatter all around the world and sit dormant for a whole year.
Fluffed's dragon balls may not be able to summon a mystical dragon, but you can still wish for a year filled with ong and huat, hehe. They're definitely yummy to munch on, and they even have small stars on them, just like the ones from the series.

Besides the Prosperity Niangao Waffle, Fluffed has another special CNY dessert called Dragon's Pearl
The main ingredient in this dessert is harumi mikan (Japanese spring mandarin) that's imported from Japan. Fluffed describes the citrus fruit as "sweet, seedless, and juicy, with the right amount of tanginess".
This is an apt choice for a specially crafted Chinese New Year cake, as mandarin oranges symbolise wealth and fortune in Chinese beliefs, because the words for 'orange' and 'success' sound similar in Mandarin.
Dragon's Pearl is made up of layers of Korean style sponge cake, handmade mandarin marmalade, harumi mikan segments, and mandarin chantilly cream. It's even impressively topped with a whole harumi mikan!
It costs RM180 for a 7″ sized cake. A minimum 2-day pre-order is required.
