M'sian Comedian Ronny Chieng Celebrates Emmy Win For 'The Daily Show'

Malaysian comedian Ronny Chieng took to Instagram to celebrate _The Daily Show_ winning an Emmy Award

Chieng, an actor and TV host based in the US, has been part of The Daily Show since 2015. The show won Outstanding Talk Series at the 2024 Emmy Awards on 15 January.

In an Instagram post today, 17 January, the Johor-born comedian celebrated the win, writing, "We won an Emmy! Thank you @trevornoah for hiring me on @thedailyshow in 2015 and changing my life. The best job with the best people in comedy."

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh was spotted in the comments section, where she congratulated Chieng.

The 38-year-old has been a correspondent for _The Daily Show_ for the past nine years

On 21 November last year, Chieng appeared as the show's guest host for the first time.

"I am Ronny Chieng, and I am guest-hosting for one day only. Dreams do come true," Chieng deadpanned on the episode, adding teasingly, "I just want to thank the network for believing in me for 23 minutes only."

Over the past few years, Chieng has shot to international fame, especially after his role in the 2018 rom-com, _Crazy Rich Asians_

He has two standup comedy shows on Netflix, and has made an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

On Malaysia Day in 2017, he showed his Malaysian passport in a video to prove that he is still anak Malaysia, saying, "Number one, I still have a Malaysia passport, okay, look at this, what more proof do you need?"

"Number two, I still use my 'lah' and 'meh' all the time, like 'boleh lah', 'can meh', 'can lah'. And number three, I can still order like a pro at the kopitiam," he added.

In 2021, Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar commended Chieng for "putting Johor on the world map":
